Filtration is a convenient tool but it is not with

Filtration is a convenient tool but it is not without its drawbacks. To remove that which is considered to some unwanted or unstable you must also remove crucial beneficial compounds that make up the character of a wine. Filtration in turn leaves wines safe and tidy yes but also renders them homogeneous and at times unmemorable at best. We would rather keep the soul in our juice even if it means we must straddle the line between flaw and character. We let gravity do all the work, naturally. We rarely move our wines in the cellar but when we do we prefer gravity to pumps. Racking minimally keeps our wines clear and soulful.

Through the exploration of lighter styles of wine No Love Lost found their place. Carbonic Counoise was the first project to be produced for sale to the public. Through that to now our pursuit to create site reflective, acid driven wines has continued. Lighter in alcohol, free of additives and adaptable to any situation our wines should always be in your cellar. The Francisco Maestas vineyard in Sonoma Valley wa

The Francisco Maestas vineyard in Sonoma Valley was named for the owners father. He was an artist, a troubadour and a shining example of what some may call a bon vivant. People like Francisco were much more common in the pre digital age, adventurous and without bounds. But this man was not common and neither is this vineyard. Approaching 25 years in age with roots planted deeply into an ancient river bed. The wines that come from this vineyard are powerful, yet light and playful. In a way I can imagine this is just as Francisco was in his day. The inaugural release of this wine is coming soon and we are excited to share it with you!

Our Claypool Counoise is light and playful with an undeniable aromatic excellence. This vineyard is what made me fall in love with making wine. In a sea of extracted, powerful monoliths this beauty had a voice that spoke to my soul. What started as a mere experiment turned into my vision for a movement. A style of winemaking that harkens back to times where alcohol and strength did not matter but beauty, beauty was everything. Fermented carbonically allowing indigenous yeast the opportunity to set in to start a slow steady fermentation. Then allowed to rest for a year in neutral French oak. Wines produced from this Southern Rhone varietal can be decieving light in color but rich in complexity. Serve it chilled on a hot summer day or let the temp come up and contemplate as you dive through its layers. #Cabernet is king but #Counoise has with out a doubt earned a place at the table and is here to stay.

This scenery is from the Gustafson Vineyard up in Dry Creek situated above the fogline. We left Napa at 4am and got to see this beautiful view during the Riesling harvest.
